Miguel Ángel Ibarz Serraclara (Barcelona, 1958), is a Spanish artist in love with the landscape and light of the South of England where he has lived for the last few months.
After his last exhibition at the Brick Lane Gallery in London, he is now showing his original watercolours and graphic work on paper at Brunswick Town in Brighton based on his numerous sketches made during his trip.
Last year he participated in an exhibition in Morbegno, Italian Alps in collaboration with the LBP Company, where he combined the subtlety of watercolour with the world of makeup, a novel and pioneering experience.
Son of María Gloria Serraclara, first cousin of Salvador Dalí, he spends his summers in Cadaqués wrapped in the particular and fantastic bohemian world of the 60s.
Dedicated professionally only to watercolour, he combined his work with numerous collaborations for the publishing world until he gradually moved on to painting only to exhibit in art galleries.
Miguel is known for his landscapes and his watercolours of flowers, subjects in which he is particularly at home.
His work, secretly, when it is looked at, ceases to be watercolour and becomes imagination “If we transcribe these paragraphs that say that he comes from “a family related to art”, we are not identifying anything. Because the son of Miguel Ibarz and María Gloria Serraclara spent his childhood surrounded by the artists of the Sala Gaspar in Barcelona, which represented, among others, Miró, Picasso, Clavé, his father Miguel Ibarz and, naturally, all the elite of the Barcelona Art World of the time.
In love with the landscape and the light, he highlights the poetic force of the urban landscape through painting.
The artist magnificently captures the light, the reflections and the colour of innumerable corners of cities that give a glimpse of everyday life, and he paints them without tricks or deception, with their beauty and their defects. He does not idealize reality, but captures it, emphasizing its lyricism and its capacity to suggest.
Miguel Ángel’s flowers seduce by their atmosphere, by their transparent and vibrant light, by their colours and by the vitality they give off.
Miguel Ángel Ibarz is an important figure in contemporary watercolour painting. In this field, he has participated in numerous exhibitions not only in Barcelona but also in London, Brighton, Zurich and Taipei, among other cities.
